Administrative Bloat – Reality, Opportunity, or Red Herring?
Monday, November 16
5:00-7:00 p.m.
Incubator, Institute for the Arts and Humanities
“Administrative bloat” is often described as the problem with higher education today. At the same time, a growing number of graduate programs and professionals look to university administration as a career path that might help solve the problematic imbalance of PhDs to academic teaching jobs. Join us for a lively discussion of administrative bloat—if there is indeed such a thing—and how issues of Altac employment play into these conversations. Administrators of all stripes are especially encouraged to attend.
We request that attendees read these brief articles prior to the event:
Benjamin Ginsberg, Washington Monthly, “Administrators Ate My Tuition“
Paul Campos, New York Times, “The Real Reason College Tuition Costs So Much”
Kevin Kiley on the Bain Report, Inside Higher Ed, “Where Universities Can Be Cut”
Light refreshments will be served. Attendance is limited to 40 people. Please register to attend.
